Drainage Mandalika International Street Circuit

With the Mandalika International Street Circuit, a non-permanent street circuit is being built on the island of Lombok. The challenge here is that the circuit must also guarantee the amenities and demands of a permanent race track. MotoGP is considered the “royal class of motorbike racing”. The demands on the track’s drainage system were therefore correspondingly high.

Maximum flexibility and safety

The 4.3 km road circuit covers an area of 1,095 hectares and is made up of 19 curves. Although the circuit will only be closed to public traffic for the two motorbike events each year, it has to meet the high standards and regulations of the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) motorbike global governing body. This also applies to the drainage system. This system is occasionally raced over by motorbikes travelling at speeds of over 300 km/h and must not only safely withstand these loads, but also be designed for the heavy rainfall that is typical in the region.

Safe drainage even during heavy rainfall

When installing the drainage channels, care had to be taken to lay the trenches precisely with +/- 2 mm to prevent sharp edges on the surface. In order to drain the racetrack safely even during heavy rainfall, a drainage system with a large retention volume was required. RECYFIX HICAP T, which has a drainage cross-section of 1,714 cm² and a retention volume of 171.4 l/m, was therefore chosen for the drainage of the curved areas. For the pit lane and service road, the FASERFIX SUPER drainage system made of robust and unbreakable concrete was chosen.

Durable and robust trenches from HAURATON were used in the pit lane and service road areas as well as in the safety-critical bends, which meet the high safety standards of the FIM motorbike global governing body.

RECYFIX HICAP T channel

The RECYFIX HICAP T channel has integrated, 30 cm high covers made of extremely robust ductile iron. These withstand the highest loads of up to 60 tonnes wheel load and approx. 180 tonnes total weight (load class F 900) and allow polygonal installation along the course of the curve thanks to the individually alignable ductile iron covers.

  • Large retention and backwater volume ensures safe drainage of the roadway during heavy rainfall events

  • No cracks on the asphalt surface course, as all three asphalt layers (asphalt base course, binder course and surface course) can be directly attached to the casting slot attachment

  • The channel system allows trash boxes and pipework to be kept to a minimum – reducing cost and time during installation

FASERFIX SUPER drains Pit-Lane & Service Road

FASERFIX SUPER trench

FASERFIX SUPER trenches have extra thick side walls and thus guarantee a high level of safety and stability. They safely withstand the high dynamic forces and suction effect caused by racing cars. In addition, they can be used in the service road area to guide cables.
